Surrey Aiming High for Disabled Children - Capital Grants 2009-2011

Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) is the Government’s transformation programme for disabled children’s services in England. In Surrey, AHDC is a programme funded jointly by Surrey County Council and NHS Surrey working together in partnership under the Surrey Alliance, with £1.4m of capital funding being made available until the end of March 2011.

The AHDC team has been working with parents, children and young people to find out the types of activities and services they would like to use. The team has also been working with voluntary organisations to help them provide effective and popular services.

MediaBox Grants

MediaBox offer a variety of different grants ranging from £1,000 to £40,000 for organisations to create and distribute youth-led media and film projects. It also offers smaller grants of £500 to individual young people.

Closing date: There are cut-off points for small and medium applications in March and April 2010. Applications for 'Big Mediabox Grants' are now closed.

Ecominds Small Grants Programme

Ecominds, run by Mind, is offering grants of up to £20,000 for community and voluntary groups working with people with experience of mental distress to engage them in environmental projects. Applicant groups must be constituted and have an accountable management structure with at least three people on the management committee, including chairperson and treasurer. Ecominds may fund new groups or pilot projects but such groups must have held an initial meeting, set up a bank account, and signed a governing document. Ecominds will not provide large or flagship grants to new groups. The panel may favour new projects over those currently or previously funded from other sources.

Heathrow Noise Fines Grant Fund

The Heathrow Noise Fines Grant Fund was recently launched to provide funding of up to £50,000 for local community and environmental projects.

Closing date: There is a two stage application process (expression of interest and full application) and the deadline for the next expression of interest is 26 February 2010.

Heritage Lottery Fund Skills for the Future

The Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) Skills for the Future programme is open to applicants as of 2nd December 2009. This new £5million grant programme will deliver up to 1,000 paid training opportunities for people across the UK seeking a career in heritage. It will not only support traditional conservation training but also a wide variety of skills needed to engage people with heritage and utilise new media and technology.

Skills for the Future will help equip organisations to engage with the widest possible range of people and inspire them to get involved with heritage. Its focus is on vocational learning. It will train people in how to best work with families, schools, young people and communities and teach the skills needed to use new technology to bring heritage sites and collections alive for new audiences. Skills for the Future will also help meet the skills gaps identified by heritage conservation bodies.

Organisations will be able to apply for funding – from £100,000 to £1million - for a number of traineeships over a period of up to five years with an emphasis on high-quality work-based training. There is only one opportunity to apply and the closing date is19 March 2010 with awards being made in May 2010.
