Influencing Planning
Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership is able to influence planning as the regional secretary to SELPN - the organisation representing South East Learning Partnerships and Networks. We were also able to influence planning through membership of organisations such as: RAISE, National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), Surrey Community Action and the Surrey Compact.
We have contributed to a number of national consultations, the most important of which, from a planning point of view, has been the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (formerly Department of Universities Innovation and Skills) consultation on the future of informal adult learning.

Following on from this consultation BIS published The Learning Revolution white paper in March 2009. Our annual conference on the 10th June 2009, entitled ‘Revolution or Evolution?’, examined the content and impact of the white paper. Alastair Thompson, Principal Advocacy Officer from NIACE provided the keynote address. Following on from the conference we led a successful partnership bid for a showcase Transformational Fund Project to help deliver on commitments made in The Learning Revolution White Paper
“This was a very useful networking event. Partnership working must be the way forward to ensure communities get the learning opportunities they need.”
“It was good to be able to discuss issues from the white paper with like-minded colleagues”
“very stimulating, lots of ideas, background and things to take away and think about”
