Learner Progression in Merstham
As a part of a European Social Fund project which we led in 2007-8, we were able to work with partners to offer taster courses in Merstham, including courses in financial literacy and in developing storysacks. A ten week ICT course was also delivered at Furzefield School. Initially aimed at parents, the course attracted members of the community of all ages, enrolling 14 adult learners.
At the end of the project we were successful in securing further funding from the Merstham Millennium Fund which made it possible to sustain classes in Merstham for a further 30 weeks. Three cohorts of adult learners have since completed beginners’ computer courses delivered by the Workers Education Association (WEA).
Sustainability is at the heart of our work and we were keen that these courses should continue once grant funding had been exhausted. We were therefore delighted when the Workers Education Association (WEA) agreed to mainstream adult IT classes at Furzefield School.
