LOCAL RESIDENTS ‘DIG’ STANWELL

Dig It- Stanwell is a community activity designed to help local residents ‘grow their own’ and get involved with gardening and good food as well as Healthy Eating, Cooking, Garden Design and First Aid.

A small gardening club has been meeting in the Community House, Laburnum Way, Stanwell to learn about planting, soils, seeds and herbs. Children have been making hanging baskets with their parents and Dad’s have had a bread and pizza baking session with their children. Many residents participated in the March First Aid course and trip to the Royal Horticulture Society.

Dig It cooking at Town FarmMore cooking and gardening activities are planned and bookings are open for a basic Internet search and social networking class which includes extra help for those wanting to proceed slowly. A new class starts 6 May at 10.30 in the Stanwell Youth Centre. Plans to start a job search club with skills support, networking opportunities and local jobs search push, kicks off with a coffee morning on Friday 6 May.

RHS Trip for Stanwell Residents by SLLP

In March a group of interested gardeners visited the RHS at Wisley. For some the cost of transport and entrance fees would be prohibitive and they were delighted to have been able to experience the colour and exotic plants grown at Wisley.DigIt Stanwell visit RHS Wisley

The paths were not easy for our group but with the help of a buggy, wheelchairs and a bit of effort, the group were able to see everything on offer. The SLLP CEO Kevin Delf helped Community Learner Adviser Elizabeth Whiddett ensure that a good time was had by all.

The day was sponsored by the RHS and Surrey Community Foundation’s Grass Roots Fund which supplied the funding for the transport.
