Long List of Successes at Sheerwater Children’s Centre
Many people from the community now learn new skills at their local Children’s Centre. On Monday 23rd November 2009, people came together to celebrate their achievements at a presentation event. Paul Hoffman from Surrey County Council Adult & Community Learning commented that places “like Sheerwater Children’s Centre are changing the way we can achieve adult learning, because people like learning close to home and with good facilities.”

Jane Garner, Vice Principal of Brooklands College handed out ten NVQ Level 2’s in Childcare, and four Literacy Certificates. Jane reflected on these successful women who had “the confidence and courage to start learning again in the community", and congratulated them on their fantastic results.
Paul Hoffman handed out seventeen certificates for ICT. The Adult Learning Widening Participation team have been running 10 week introductory courses in ICT at the Centre for over two years, and this was just the latest group of learners that had finished the course.
Other courses available at the Centre include ESOL – English for people whose first language is something else.
