South East Learning Partnerships & Networks

South East Learning Partnerships and Networks (SELPN) is the strategic body representing learning partnerships across the region. It is chaired by Liz Gifford of Milton Keynes Economy and Learning Partnership. SELPN enables the dissemination of best practice, maximises access to resources and facilitates engagement with the regeneration agenda. Established in 2000, it is a legal entity, a company limited by guarantee and is thus able to contract at both regional and national levels.

The breadth of learnering partnerships and networks across the South East is illustrated by the contacts on the right. While they vary in character depending on history and local circumstances and needs, they have certain features in common:

  • Governed by independent unique alliances of senior influential local decision makers
  • Valued role as honest brokers
  • Strong established networks
  • Provide local intelligence to align planning and funding
  • Extensive experience of managing collaboration
  • Significant presence within local communities of learning
  • Relationship with local employer bodies
  • Engagement with the voluntary and community sector

As the convenor of SELPN, we were pleased to welcome Bobbie McLelland (BIS) to the SELPN regional seminar ‘Shaping the Way Ahead’ on Thursday 12th March 2009 in Woking. The event provided a platform to raise the profile of the regional network and its partners with decision makers in order to demonstrate that there are networks across the South-East which can provide local action and intelligence to support the Skills Funding Agency
